Concerned about pokies in Hamilton?
Hamilton City Council is seeking submissions on pokies this month. This is a once in three year opportunity to have your say.
Gambling can be seen as entertainment. But it also can result in harm for the individual and the community.
At present, pokies can be moved between Hamilton venues. This has meant that over recent years the number of pokies has stayed the same.
To change this policy, so pokies cannot be moved between venues, it is likely that the number of pokies would fall. This is the “sinking lid” option.
The council is also proposing to prohibit the establishment of any more TAB board venues in Hamilton. Tell the council whether you agree with this.
As a Hamilton City Councillor, I will be listening and reading all submissions and will be keeping an open mind on the issue.
Go to www.hamilton.govt.nz/gamblingreview or pick up a submission form from Hamilton City Council reception or any council library.
Submissions close on October 2—at midnight.
Thanks for your ongoing support
